Having kept up with the elections campaigns on both sides, I've come to discover that both candidates, are really only feeding off of our emotions, and in a sense only pacifying the American public, in two ways: McCain feeds off of our fear, like Bush, and uses war on terror, and our desires to rid ourselves of high taxes (the money emotion, I like to call it). Obama, hits the same points when it comes to money, empathizing with the larger demographic of citizens who are struggling to pay bills, so he attacks the wealthy's tax breaks. Obama also is a big empathizer. He relates to the general problems, for which until eight years ago we never felt we needed empathy.
The point here is that a lot of our candidates platforms are disguised empty promises. Again, they're just aiming for the finish line, pointing fingers at one another, as if they were clipping each other's legs in a foot race. What we need Senators is leader who can get the job done already, instead of this consistent blame-gaming. Blaming each other does not solve all the problems we're facing right now, especially considering that the issues at hand go well beyond taxes, and way beyond who gave who a cool handshake, or who is more patriotic. These are petty, childish acts, so grow up the two of you and start acting like real leaders. We don't need your empathy, we need you to stand up to the grinding gears of conventional politics and get rid of old 19th century practices. Deal with the energy crisis, deal with the economy, deal with the war, and stop dealing with each other.
We should demand points from each candidate, that would specifically outline all the things they want to do to make change in this nation. It would be nice to have a candidate who says what he means, and carries through with those actions. Instead now we have candidate and politicians, who constantly empathize with us, but they're treating us like emotional baggage, that they will shake off more and more the closer they get to the presidency. Just like our current president, who has not lived up to any of his promises since he came into office. He did not lower taxes for all of us, though that what he stated, but what he meant was to lower taxes for the wealthy. He did not accomplish his mission, in either Iraq or Afghanistan, because we still occupy both countries, and still have troops dying, terrorists on the loose, and yet still no plan to finalize the strategy in Iraq. It's an outright fiasco.
In conclusion, I say to our potential future leaders of the U.S., don't tell me you're going to do something, just do it. Yes, you're aren't leading yet, but you are still a leader, so lead with actions not words.
