In response to this last week's montage of news coverage about Iran and its so called "un-willingness" to stop uranium enrichment has really struck a chord with me. Now we have the EU, Russia, and the U.S. all pushing for Iran to stop, and for compensation, what do they offer?! They offer up some lousy trade initiatives with the EU. Big deal! You would think that with the huge energy crisis going on in this world, that the global community would be a bit more understanding to the fact that maybe Iran does not have the same energy resources that most highly developed countries already have. Maybe, just maybe, they are trying to implement a more stable source of energy in their country. Maybe they don't want to keep spending large sums of their budgets on imported oil.
Iranian officials have gone to the extent of allowing tourists from foreign countries to visit their nuclear facilities [link], and maybe these "tourists", whoever they'd be, could see for themselves. You'd have to ask yourself, if you were one of these tourists, "Would I be able to tell the difference between a nuclear power reactor, and a bunch of nuclear warheads?" I don't know. Would you? If you were able to see this stuff.
Anyhow, in another article published today, Iran is using nuclear technology for energy purposes. But the U.S. and European nations "believe" they want to use it for nuclear weapons. Why is it that we are always pointing the finger, and strtictly accusing these countries of evil doing, when we simply have no hard evidence to prove thus. I mean consider the fact that since the early 80's the U.S. has spent billions upon billions of dollars on satellite technology to become the "big eye in the sky", but yet we cannot find out what's moving in and out of Iran's nuclear facilities. That's point number one. Secondly, before all this mayhem in Iraq, the U.S. and allies tried over and over to send inspectors into Iraq to find the so called WMD's (which by the way were never found, and was a pack of lies conjured up by our good old buddy Armitage). I don't know about you, but I consider nuclear weapons a form of WMD, and that added with the fact that Iran has opened its doors to tourists to come visit their facilities, it's no wonder why this situation is a load of crap.
In the the aforementioned article, the Russian foreign minister, Lavrov, had even stated that the U.S. "is complicating" the six nation talks. I would assume, that U.S. representatives are the ones throwing out accusations with nothing to back them up, which has been the case in the past. In the article Lavrov stated that the all nations are working in collaboration, and all final decision will be made together in agreement, and that includes the analysis of the situation. So why not just go along with the process, and stop throwing wrenches in the cogs, which President Bush has done by signing U.S. legislation to toughen sanctions on Tehran.
